InsSciDE’s third open conference explores crucial themes in Europe’s relationships to the many emergent poles of scientific expertise and influence. Different, sometimes conflictual, perspectives will be prompted on how a new vision and practice of science diplomacy may be critical to bridging the interests across divides, and how it may contribute to finding common, albeit diverse, solutions to shared challenges.
Employing InsSciDE’s signature historical approach, discussions will critically examine Global North-South architecture and the role that science diplomacy plays in both past and future cooperative (or competitive) endeavors.
- DAY 1 spotlights the role of Academies of Science in science diplomacy, engaging a diverse group of scholars and professionals to chart Academies’ international action in the present and as far back as the 18th century.
- DAY 2 convenes perspectives on emerging movements in science and diplomacy, from open science and innovation diplomacy to the Anthropocene and ‘new’ actors and definitions in science diplomacy.
- DAY 3 invites science diplomacy practitioners, scholars, and other stakeholders to debate the major findings of our two dozen historical case studies. Join InsSciDE researchers to transform the cases into valuable tools for teaching, training and everyday practice in science diplomacy. (In-person only)
