Science Diplomacy Side Event at the World Science Forum 2024
The EU Science Diplomacy Alliance, in collaboration with the European Commission, hosted a well-attended Side Event at the World Science Forum (#WSF2024) on 20 November in Budapest. This dynamic session focused on the co-creation process of the European Framework for Science Diplomacy, offering participants an exclusive look into the innovative work being carried out by five EU Science Diplomacy Working Groups. The event also provided a preview of key recommendations for the European Framework for Science Diplomacy and sparked discussions about the future of science diplomacy, both in Europe and on a global scale. The discussion moderated by Stella Reschke were enriched by the valuable insights of distinguished panelists Jan Marco Müller (DG RTD), Dovilė Gailiūtė-Janušonė (Science and Innovation Adviser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania), and Pierre-Bruno Ruffini (Professor of Economics at the University of Le Havre and Co-Chair of the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance), who shared their personal experiences and perspectives on this transformative journey.
Looking ahead, the hand-over of the final report on the European Framework for Science Diplomacy is expected in January 2025, marking a significant milestone in this initiative. Another key date to note is December 17-18, 2025, when the 2nd European Science Diplomacy Conference will take place in Copenhagen, promising further dialogue and advancement in this field.
